MRI as a tool to study murine models of chronic lung infection

At this event, Daniela Cirillo, San Raffaele Hospital (Milan), will explain how Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) can be used to study chronic lung infection induced by Non-Tubercular Mycobacteria in a murine model and evaluate both the progression of the disease and the response to innovative treatments (full abstract below).

We have established a murine model to study chronic lung infection induced by Non-Tubercular Mycobacteria and evaluate both the progression of the disease and the response to innovative treatments.
These translational studies require sacrificing mice at different time points and exploit a high number of animals in each experimental group. We exploited new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) sequences protocols to evaluate the presence and the extension of lung infectious foci in immunocompetent mice with chronic lung infection up to three months post challenge.
We will discuss the advantages and the technical challenges of the use of this technology in murine lung infection models.
